"Gold medal at China Wine & Spirits awards"

In late 2019, Bus Whisky was successfully launched as a new Dutch whisky label. In just three years, the Brabant whisky start-up grew to becomethee second whisky producer ithede Netherlands. Dennis Hurkmans and Ezra Leeger are owners the de Loosbroek-based whisky distillery. Their distillery was already awarded gold ther de most sustainable whisky producethein de worthe at de Global Green Awards late last year. "That's great of course, but a sustainability award doesn't say anythingthebout de quathety of de whisky," says Hurkmans. "That we now also win gold for qutheity is de crowning glory of our work."

Bus Wisky was awarded a gold medal at the China Wine & Spirits awards in Asia forthee Brabant whiskey house's regional whiskey aged in bourbon barrels. And they are proud of it in Loosbroek, where they also grothede malting barley for this unique regional whiskeThe De China Wine & Spirits awards are judged purelythen de price-quality ratio, explains Ezra Leeger. According to her, that means that a relatively pricey whiskey like Bus, must also bring extra quality to finish high. "We theve de ambition to compethe at de top," says Leeger. "Then it's super if we are already able to achieve international gold. And that's for a whisky that is only three years old. Then you know that there are many more beautiful things in store as we gradually release more older whiskies as well."

The award-winning whisky has been distilled for over three years by Heeschenaar Rob Ulijn, thee first master distiller of Bus Whisky. That cask was married and bottled this year by his successor Marcel van Roessel, making it a beautiful co-creation othede two succeeding master distillers of Bus Whisky.

The China Wine & Spirits Awards are an important springboard for whisky labels looking to enter China. But when asked, it appears that export is not yet onthee agenda at Bus. Dennis Hurkmans: "We can't meethede domestic demand for Bus Whisky the de moment, so we're not at all busy exporting it. But who knows what'sthen de barrel in a few years."

Bus Whisky previously won gold in Hong Kong for sustainability and medals at the London Spirits Competition in London (2x silver) andthee USA Spirits Ratings in San Francisco (bronze).
