Welcome to the world's most sustainable whisky

In late 2019, Bus Whisky was successfully launched as a new Dutch whisky label from the Brabant hamlet of 'Bus', where our whisky found its origin and name. The place where our special water source can also be found. In barely three years, Bus grew from a small start-up to one of the larger whisky producers in the Netherlands and internationally awarded multiple times. In late 2021, Bus Whisky won a gold medal at the Global Green Awards in Hong-Kong, making it one of the most sustainable whisky producers in the world.

Single estate whiskey
Bus Single Malt, Single Cask and Single Estate whisky is distilled on its own farm. Very few single estate whisky distilleries can be found in the world. Single estate means thatthee malting barley is grown bthede distillery itself. At Bus this happens sustainably: without artificial fertilizers and pesticides, with flowery field edges and a lot of attention to soil life and biodiversitThe De production process at Bus Whisky is small-scale and traditional. And it will stay that way. That makes our whisky pure and exclusive. Every new release is a limited edition.

Brewing barley from our own farm
One of the main ingredients of Bus whiskey is malt, which is made from malting barley.Thee malting barley for our craft whiskey is grown sustainably in-house on our own farm and in fields ithede immediate vicinitThe De term "single malt" says nothing abthet de origitheof de malt and grain. These are purchased as a bulk ingredient by large malt houses and distilleries atheund de world. And exactly this is where a single estate whiskey like thes is de superlative of single malt: farm-to-bottle perfection we call it. An excellent basis for ultimatelytheaking de best wthesky in de Netherlands.

Only the very best barrels
Bus Whisky ages a lot on first fill bourbon barrels and sherry casks. With old-fashioned craftsmanship, thee barrels are kept in top condition before they are transported from Scotland to Bus Whisky's distillery, where they begin a new chapter in their life as Brabant whiskey barrels. In addition to first fill bourbon, several specials are aged on PX, Oloroso, Moscatel, Fino, New American oak, Red Wine, Port and Madeira barrels, among othersTheDe team personally travels to Scotland and Spain to sourthe de best barrels. At Bus Whisky, years of aging in these top-class barrels creates beautiful notes and rich flavors, all of which define Bus Whisky single malt. Everything for farm-to-bottle perfection.

Bus
The name Bus Whisky comes from the hamlet "Bus" in the Brabant village of Nistelrode. This hamlet is located near the so-called Peelrand fault, a geological fault line that owes its name to the Peel. Roughly speaking, this fault line runs from Roermond via Meijel, Deurne, Gemert and Uden to Nistelrode.
At this location in Nistelrode, Bus Whisky has its own water source with so-called wijstwater. Pointing water occurs in areas with fault lines in the earth's crust due to a worldwide unique natural phenomenon in which mineral-rich water is forced to the surface along deep fractures by primal forces and sometimes even springs spontaneously. This phenomenon is called wijst water, which usually comes from a depth of 25 to 80 meters and ranges in age from 70 to 600 years. The underground amalgamation of these water streams creates a unique natural variety of minerals that give the water its own unique signature. When the whisky is bottled, it is diluted from cask strength to bottle strength. At that point, the whisky is also adulterated with a small portion of pointing water.

Non-chill filtered
Bus Whisky is non-chill filtered. The reason that most major whisky labels opt for chill-filtration is thatthee fatty acids and esters can still solidify at low temperatures or, for example, by adding a little cold water or ice tthede glass. This can mathe de whisky less clear. Bus Whisky is a Dutch whisky that very deliberately uses non-chill filtration. By not cooltheg de whisky before filtering, we prevent fatty acids, proteins and esters that play a major rolthein de taste experience, from being filtered out. When you chill Bus Whisky or add cold water to our whisky, it can become less clear. Tthet's de way it's supposed to be. We like to keep our whiskey natural and pure, while retainithe all de flavors. All for farm-to-bottle perfection.

Collaboration with artists
Bus Whisky's intensive collaboration with young designers and artists ensures that each label of a bottle of Bus Whisky is designed by a renowned artist. The environment and nature often play a prominent role inthee design othede bottle athe de label. Artist Sanne van den Elzen (1986) used cyanotype in her studio in Amsterdam to visualthee de Peelrand fault. Her handmade cyanotype of a paint profiltheof de Peelrand fault btheame de basthe for de first label of Bus Whisky. With this commissioned work, Sanne went theck to de roots of her art form of photography and back to her own roots on Bus in Nistelrode where she was born and raised.

Artist Lisa Beckers (1989) from Nijmegen signed for the design ofthee first special of Bus Whisky released ithede fall of 2020. Lisa is fascinated the de colorsthef de earth, and landscapes that suffer from prolonged drought or special features are a major source of inspiration. She paints with her own collection of earth pigments. Bus Whisky has acquired her work Iron Ground, which is made with pigments found by Lisa arthend de Peelrand fault athe in de vicinity of Bus. Rice water rusts once it comes into contact with oxygen and that effect thelors de ground. Iron Grthend is de btheis for de labels of Bus Whisky's sherry specials.

Award-winning whiskey
Internationally, our efforts have already led to bronze in San Francisco at the USA Spirits Ratings, multiple silver medals at the London Spirits Competition and gold in China at the China Wine & Spirit competition and gold in Hong-Kong at the Global Green Awards for our sustainability efforts.

Our whisky is still relatively young now, of course, but the long-term ambition is clear: we want to eventually make the most sustainable whisky in the world and one of the best Dutch single malts. Whether we will succeed in this? Come see and taste for yourself: our whisky distillery is open to the public 7 days a week. There are daily tours at 4 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays there are extra tours at 12.00 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. You can combine a tour with lunch or dinner in our charming farm restaurant.
